Beautiful Aurora!

Thank you, Lynn.

Artist's Description

The aurora is the result of particles ejected by the sun hitting the Earth's magnetosphere. It causes ionization in the atmosphere which causes the colors. It is visible in higher latitudes although particularly strong activity can be seen much further from the poles.

Isle Royale is located in Lake Superior. It is the least visited National Park in the country. Less than one percent of the island is developed with the remainder designated as wilderness.

Tobin Harbor is located on the northeast end of Isle Royale. It was home to a small resort community before the island became a park.

Here the aurora and milky way are visible over Tobin Harbor on Isle Royale.
