Description
Mission Point is located on the Saint Mary's River south of Sault Saint Marie. It is a popular spot for boat watching as boats approach and leave the Soo Locks. There is a small restaurant at the north end and the Sugar Island Ferry leaves from there too
The Edward B. Green was launched in 1952. During the 1975-76 winter layup Fraser Ship Yard in Superior, Wisconsin added 120 feet to her bringing her total length to 767 feet. This increased her cargo capacity from 20,150 tons to 26,750 tons. The 1981 addition of her unloading boom decreased her capacity to 25,900 tons.
The Cleveland Cliffs Company sold her to Rouge Steel Corporation and she was renamed the Benson Ford (III).
Interlake Shipping Company purchased her when Ford liquidated their fleet of ships. With the purchase of Ford's fleet, Interlake Shipping Company signed contracts to supply the Rouge Steel Plant and formed the Lake Shipping Company. It was at this time that she was named the Kaye E. Barker.
During the winter layup of 2012 her steam engine was replaced with a diesel power plant. Other modifications were made to accommodate the change and she was given a fresh coat of paint. She returned to service in August, 2012.
Here, the Kaye E. Barker passes Mission Point on her first trip after her conversion. Her paint is still fresh and free from the damage acquired during the course of service.

Very beautiful work, Christopher. Love the sunlight on the ship, and the moody sky.
