Description
Devils Tower is located in Northeast Wyoming and stands almost 1300 feet above the surround terrain. There are many theories to its origin. It was designated as a National Monument in 1906 by Theodore Roosevelt.
Prior to that time, the area held special significance for Native American Tribes.
In 2008, artist Junkyu Muto placed the Circle of Smoke sculpture in the park. This is the third of seven planned pieces for significant sites throughout the world. The other two are located in Buddha Gaya, India and the Vatican.
This twelve foot marble sculpture is meant to symbolize the first ring of smoke from a peace pipe.
